19 November is World
Toilet Day and this presents an opportunity to raise awareness of the fact that
2.5 billion people do not have sustainable access to toilets and proper
sanitation. Imerys Sanitaryware believes action
in this area is in line with our business and values.
In 2008 we established a partnership with Medecins du Monde, a well-known international NGO, to improve public health in Roseaux,
Haiti. This project involves the construction of waterless latrines made
of concrete and salvaged materials to bring basic sanitation to families. The
project also includes a reforestation drive through tree planting; as well as
health and environmental education. Click for further details of the work done
last year.
Last year the project was entirely
funded by Imerys Sanitaryware, in 2009 we renewed our support and in fact made
it possible for employees to get involved through participating in sponsored
events and making personal donations.
We are also pleased to offer other
members of the sanitaryware community the opportunity to also get involved.
Donators have the possibility to become a Médecins du Monde partner. As an NGO
that promotes access to sanitation, their work is particularly relevant to
businesses in the sanitaryware industry.
Please contact us for further
information about this project and how you can get involved.
